Has anyone given birth at Milton Keynes General Hospital? I hear it's really awful...

I had my first son at Bedford nearly 8 years ago and it was so awful I went for 2 home births after that! Have also heard that MK is pretty bad, but tbh I think most hospitals have their problems (& their good points too I'm sure)

A lot probably depends on which staff are on duty at the time (and how long they've been there, i.e. how much patience they have left!)

I have heard of a mum who has given birth there and would only tell me selected bit of her birt. Won't even reproduce here what she said but it was truly appalling!

I have had 2 great births at MK.... 5years apart... fantastic midwives. 2nd was an agency midwife amd i will always remember her for her kindness.. prob helped that i wasnt there long as was 9cm dilated on arrival and the only thing holding baby in was that the waters hadnt broken

I have - in some ways it was perfect, in others, terrible. Such as, I had no pain relief except gas and air - except that they made me labour at visiting time on the post natal ward without any because both of their canisters were broken. I demanded to go to the delivery suite and I was 6cm dilated

I think the visitng relatives were disturbed by my screaming from behind a curtain

Perfect because i had the same midwife all through and she stayed late just to see me finished.

What you have to remember is that the hospital was built in 1984 to cater for MK when there was hardly anyone here. In the last 5 years its changed beyond recognition (MK I mean) but the hospital has only just got some new parking spaces.

I heard bad things too, and I was terrifed too. But I wasnt prepared to book myself in at Bedford or Northampton

I had a really good experience at MK hosp. Arrived at 11 at night, had our own room and one to one midwife care. My labour was so long that I had 2 but they were both really good and reassuring during quite a difficult labour which ended in a caesarean. Afterwards they were pretty good too, although really busy. You can go and have a look round if it helps.

I had my daughter at MK five years ago - am due to have my son in September so don't want to hear any scare stories!

I found them to be great - own room and midwife, very supportive...

Lalalaaa (fingers in ears emoticon) - I'm not listening any more!!
