Hello can anyone advise on whether uckfield or east Grinstead would be better to move our family to? And which areas worth looking at? Currently leaning towards uckfield. We both work from home so commuting isn’t an issue. Main thing we desire is a nice spacious 4 bedroom house (budget max around 650) and a real sense of community /friendly other families around. I’d go to lewes or forest row if could afford it due to much preferring the places and also slightly more alternative vibes (which describes us!)

wouid uckfield or east Grinstead suit us better? Trying to find a place that works for our whole family. Husband doesn’t want to be driving everywhere always so need to be able to walk to
a shop /park etc. I need to be able to walk from door of house into nature. And the area needs to have a nice community feel (we have two young children).
areas to explore /avoid ??
Primary schools not an issue as we’ll probably be driving to a small rural one somewhere.

Appreciate any insight! 🙏🏻

I've been living in the Uckfield, Crowborough and Heathfield triangle for the last 25 years having moved from London. Both East Grinstead and Uckfield are pretty small towns. East Grinstead is prettier but definitely busier from a road traffic perspective and suffers from poor air quality and more aircraft noise on the approach to Gatwick. Uckfield is convenient more than it is pretty. Schools are good including the large Community College. If you live in one of the outlying villages around these small towns, you will end up driving everywhere but you get used to it. Have a well stocked larder and buy a spare of everything. The surrounding High Weald countryside is possibly the most beautiful you will find anywhere in the South-East, just fabulous, so many footpaths.

Hi I’m considering a move to Lewes from east London. Wanting somewhere offering easy access to green spaces for me, and close proximity to nightlife/fun for the teenagers. Currently renting in London and it’s no longer affordable. Does anyone have local info about Lewes/nearby secondary schools? ( I don’t mean info about social class/racialised identity/wealth) I am interested in whether or not the school options are nurturing, and where my arty / sensitive (read eccentric) DS and DD might thrive. Thanks

Drove through Lewes at the weekend for Glynbourne. Beautiful and serene.
I'll be happy to live there if I was white European.
