Moving to Letchworth

Hi all, my girlfriend and I are looking to buy a house in Letchworth (previously rented in London and then Hitchin). From looking at other threads it really seems like a mixed bag in terms of the areas, although most posts are quite old. There is a house we are looking at along Icknield Way, close to the junction with Baldock Road. I was wondering if anybody could comment on how nice the area is? The house has been on the market for quite awhile so I'm concerned that I'm missing something! I have driven along the road and it looks nice, but I would appreciate some unfiltered opinions from the locals!

Information on quality of schools is also helpful, although slightly less of a concern as we are a young couple.

I lived in Letchworth when I was in my 20s and it's a lovely town, it's a little quiet, but close enough to Hitchin for decent nightlife, it had a bit of a reputation as an old person town, but I think that's changing and there are some beautiful old properties and it's a good commuter town.

We moved from there to Baldock, then on to Fairfield hall where we lived a few years.

It has a great outdoor pool for summer, shopping is terrible but everyone drives so Hitchin, Baldock, Stevenage are your neighbouring towns.

Schools as I understand are good, i grew up in the area and the Hitchin private schools are great and commutable.

Do you have any specific questions? Happy to answer

Baldock is a great market town, great pubs, an excellent butcher and real strong sense of community. More expensive than Letchworth though, so it depends on your budget. I would pick Hitchin personally but given you live there now and are looking outside I imaging house prices are the draw.
