Where should we live in Devon by the seaside?

Hi Mums & Dads

My wife & I are looking to move to Devon, we'd like to live by the seaside and would love some recommendations please. So far we've been drawn to Brixham & Sidmouth.

We have a 1 year old so finding a place with good schools is very important, preferably great state schools but also open to private day schools.

We have family in Bath & the Midlands so finding somewhere with good road links etc would be nice.

We're less about arcade seaside vibes, more about cosy pubs, vegan options & flat whites. Somewhere a little quiet but hipster😂

Lastly, we're a gay couple so somewhere that is LGBTQ+ friendly would be nice, especially for our child.

Any idea would be fab!

Thanks so much.

Your budget will be a huge factor. I have very similar circumstances (gay, young child) in the end after looking into it a lot we decided not to move, largely due to the high cost of what we would want but also realised it's not always the sea side dream 😬

Well the obvious choice would be Totnes… though not directly on the beach.
There is a shop in Brixham called Destiny run by a lesbian couple who moved from London so may be worth browsing in their and asking their thoughts on relocating!

Devonite here. "Flat whites and hipster" is about as far removed from Devon as you can imagine. Why Devon?!

Good point re: budget. It's a bit tricky to say because we currently live aboard but let's say we'd be looking to buy a house around the £400k mark, we're also open to renting for a little while to try before we buy.

Good to know other gay families are looking at Devon though : ) Did you look at anywhere specific? Where did you end up?

Haha. We're just looking to move away from City life. We have a dog and kid and want to give them a nice live somewhere more rural. We've spent a lot of time in Devon and just get a feeling it could be home for us. Also open to other ideas 🙂

North devon. Loads of lovely vegan places/independent coffee shop in Barnstaple. World class beaches good primary schools and lovely local communities. Your budget will stretch a little further than places like Totnes if look at Barnstaple and surrounding villages. We relocated 9 years ago from Dorset and wouldn't move back.
