Hi,
I am only 12 weeks (due Aug 8) with my first and looking into local antenatal or NCT classes as I hear they get booked up. Also looking for a private midwife/ doula...
Any recommendations or ideas?
Thanks.

Hi,
Congratulations. I can recommend a great pregnancy yoga class in Notting Hill which I loved- great for aches and pains during pregnancy and for giving birth. The woman who runs it also does birth preparation classes which I've heard are really good. She's a walking A-Z of pregnancy and can put you in touch with anyone from doulas to acupuncturists.

Hi Milly,

take a look at www.thebabymoon.co.uk - run by a mumsnetter, who is also a doula. I also offer private antenatal classes and I am a doula.

Hi Milly
The Life Centre pregnancy yoga on edge street W8, Hillgate Village, is very popular; they also do a great mum & baby once bubs arrives! I went to Frances Gordon's - NCT -(surname escapes me) Bark Street W2 antenatal classes. She also does a postnatal drop in group which was worth going to. I met some great mums through this and we are still all together and our children are nearly 2!Here's the link.

Oh thank you all for the suggestions (working and don't often get a mumsnet opp during the day - hence delay)!
I went to the Life Centre for about two years for one of their other courses and will def look into the pregnancy yoga.
Jane - who is your walking A - Z of advice? She sounds like a mine of information - do you know how I might contact her? M

Jane1234 - I would love to get your recommendation as well!

Hi,

If you google Lolly Stirk yoga you'll get contact details. She even gets a mention in that book 'Notting Hell' she's been doing pregnancy yoga classes for so long around here!

Jane1234 - the Notting Hell ref made me laugh out loud. not sure if that's a ringing endorsement or a warning?! thanks v much - I found her website and I'm going to get in contact with her about her antenatal courses. Great to have some recommendations.

And hertsnessex, the profiles of the doulas at thebabymoon.co.uk really look like what I'm after.

Slinkiemalinki, I've found Frances Gordon too - think for my dates the courses on offer are at Pottery Lane, W11.

Feeling much better after a few weeks in the google-wilderness where it's very hard to weigh up the (many) options and make a decent decisions! A novice mumtobe like me can't offer much in return - except retail therapy tips...?! Milly

Pottery Lane is really near me (more Holland Park) but I opted for Frances's group instead - she has a number you can call and she will ring you back as the website may not be up to date with her latest classes. Frances is pretty pro-natural homebirth and all that and pretty earnest about it but she means very well and actually gave me some advice that helped me a lot. But lots of these people sound highly recommended! if you opt for other antenatal I would still recommend the NCT postnatal drop in unless you are lucky enough to have a huge ready-made group of baby friends to while away your maternity leave with.

hi Milly,

Congrats with the pregnancy! Not sure whether you are\still looking for a doula/private midwife/antenatal classes....I qualified as a midwife 9 years ago but have left the clinical work for what it is and now concentrate on guiding pregnant women/couples through all aspects of pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood - emtionally, practically and physically. You can take a look at my site www.sofiejacobs.com. At any time if you have a question, please feel free to give me a call. on the site you will see that my base is in Peckham but I do drive a scooter and my clients are\all over London .

Wishing you all the best,
Sofie
