Hi Group,

How is life in Thornbury, Bristol ?

I would love to have some review about life in thornbury. I've lived in Bristol for 15 yrs and now that I have growing young family with 2 boys (6 & 8 yrs) and Bristol has become somewhat like London when it comes to buying a house especially in current climate. At present we are living in Bradley Stoke. I've heard a lot about Thornbury and always lived in north bristol and now considering moving to Thornbury. I am looking at houses in southern part or thornbury I guess around Midlands Way, Avon Way area which is close to Main Tesco Superstore. Are there any particular patch to avoid in Thornbury?
How is St. Mary's VA Primary School ? Or any other good/outstanding schools in the area?

For secondary I am targeting Castle School for my boys.

How is life in general in Thornbury?

Any views or reviews would be much appreciated.

Thanks

No experience of Thornbury other than having seen the area - stunning - and have heard good things. It’s beautiful. I also love Portishead.
I know exactly what you mean about Bristol and prices, I loved living here when younger but the older I get I simply cannot wait to retire somewhere a bit more remote with more countryside. Henbury and South Gloucester is having buildings shooting up everywhere, hate it. Thankfully already own a property here so will hopefully get our money back one day.

I don't live in Thornbury but dh works there near Midland Way on the trading estate so often pop over to pick him up. There's a massive depot for M and S there with lorries coming and going at all times of the day and night. Last time we popped into the high street I thought that the place was dying on its feet.
Personally I prefer Yate. Better transport links (it has a railway station, Thornbury doesn't) and all the big name stores with free parking.
