Hi everyone,

I am looking to move to Norwich with my child who is in year 9. Does anyone have any recommendations for secondary schools? I have looked online and looked at ofsted but they don’t always capture the essence of a school.

i cannot afford private, I am non religious and would like a mixed school.

many thanks

Friends say Framingham Earl is very good as relatively small and culture of good behaviour meaning kids enjoy it

@Elderflower2016 thank you, just had a look and it looks lovely but not sure if we would be in the catchment area. I was thinking of moving to NR2/3/1 post code.

Few of the state high schools in Norwich have great rep.
Sprowston & Thorpe probably most highly rated.
Not in catchment for those postcodes.
You're probably looking at CoNAc which is huge.
Is your child finishing year 9 now or starting yr9 in September?

@lljkk she is in year 9 now, so going into year 10 in September. Sorry what school is CoNAC ?

Sorry, I keep thinking it's City (of) Norwich Academy, but it's actually City Academy Norwich. Not to be confused with City of Norwich Athletics Club ( def. CONAC).

What I'm worrying about for you is whether they start GCSE programme in late June of yr9 or even yr8. Am fairly sure they don't offer A-levels: their pupils mostly go to City College for A-levels or apprenticeships, I suspect.

Bless MN for trying, but these MN Local pages have sparse traffic. Try a local group on Facebook for more Norwich school gossip?

@lljkk i think from the research I have done some schools start selecting GCSE options in year 8 and maybe even have started them.

it’s been so difficult trying to find someone (and I have tried about 5 schools this week) to return my calls so I can speak to them about gcse options and how that would work in principle with joining part way through the year. It’s a little frustrating as I appreciate they are busy but it would be nice to speak to someone. I just have to keep trying

Sprowston High isn't great. Thorpe is massive. Broadland High has a good rep and isn't massive. Bit out of the way of Norwich City centre though.

@rainbowandglitter why do you say that Sprowston isn’t great?
