House move-Pilning

We are planning to move to Pilning, Bristol and my child has to go to Gordano,Portishead. Can someone advise if it is okay to drive up and down 40 mins a day for secondary school? Is there any direct bus from Pilning to Portishead? Thankyou

I don't know what public transport is like but I wouldn't want to be driving up and down the M5 twice a day just to do a school run. Those two places are on opposite sides of the river Avon and the M5 Avonmouth bridge is the closest crossing point (unless that is closed and then you would have to come into Bristol and use the Clifton Suspension Bridge).

Do you realise that the two places are in different local authorities? Portishead is in North Somerset, whilst Pilning is in South Gloucestershire.

Oh gosh no. I don't think that's very workable. The M5 can be horrendous and 40 minutes could very easily be an hour or more with roadworks and traffic. Sorry to suggest it, but change the location of your house or school choice

Yes I am aware they are different counties though I saw it takes 20 mjns drive on m5 to Portishead so we decided upon pilning

Yes, it takes 20 minutes in favourable conditions but if it's the Friday before a bank holiday; if there's a crash further along; the Severn bridge is closed; or a major gig in Cardiff you can be sitting on that stretch of motorway for hours.
The longest I've been caught in a tailback in that area is 6 hours (I'm local too).

Thankyou. We have decided on it and now difficult to revoke it. Hopefully things will go good ..thanks a lot
