Facilities in Dundee and the surrounding area

Hey guys, after reading a little discussion on another thread (mostly between klaws and clayre ) I realised we should have a thread on the facilities in the area.
Unfortunately my info may be a little out of date for pg or baby stuff as my son is nearly 4 but I'm sure there are others out there who can correct any mistakes!

So, any queries?

One I noted was that breast feeding support groups aren't that well advertised- unless you're lucky enough to be near one!

The one I went to was on Tuesday mornings at Wallacetown Health Centre. I don't know if it's still going, but the website is here www.gpsites.scot.nhs.uk/t/11382/main.htm

Let us know if you check it out!

i did live near wallacetown health centre and was told the one i would have to go was in broughty ferry in the evenings when i worked.

Klaw · 10/01/2008 12:09

So does that mean we need to set something up in Dundee?

LittleWeePickle · 10/01/2008 14:39

There is a BF group in Blackness Library on a Fri afternoon, 2pm onwards

LittleWeePickle · 10/01/2008 14:54

I wish we could set up a mum's group in a cafe (well, ideally the pub...!) or someplace in town. I get a bit tired of health centres, HVs, that sorta thing.

Would love to just meet other mums for coffee in town like a normal person!!!

dingdong05 · 10/01/2008 15:12

Apparently there's 1 in Wallacetown, Blackness library, and Broughty Ferry, as well as lots in the surrounding areas. I'm waiting to hear back from te bf coordinator, but apparently this info is given out to everyone leaving hospital, and is available from hvs. Obv there's a glitch if you guys aren't getting the info.
Plus there's funding for extra help if you live in special areas.

Well, LittleWeePickle, this is something I would be happy to start organising.

My dd is no longer feeding from me but I bf both my children till weaned, and am due to start BF Peer Support training in Feb. This is something that is important to me as a woman and as a Doula.

I want to do a Birth Choices group (a Peer support group that has nothing to do with HCPs), monthly meetings probably, but a weekly or possibly fortnightly BF group would be great too.

Would you CAT me or email me via my website on profile if you wish to get involved? And tell everyone you think may be interested to contact me too.

I used to go to the Blackness library group. I thought the support was excellent, I'm not sure if i would have managed to successfully breastfeed without that help. Also the group was really welcoming.

Klaw · 15/01/2008 20:44

Dingdong, put it here, cos people might be browsing from those areas, and in fact I am in Angus! And Monifieth is Angus, yet is right next to the Ferry so there's overlap.....
