Western Super Mare for Living?

Hello,

Does anyone know what it's like to live in Western super mare for families? Everything I'm seeing so far is very positive. Looks like great schooling, lovely sense of community, plenty to do, lovely beach, decent hospital.

Would be great to hear from anyone who lives or has lived there. 🙂

It is not a nice beach

CharacterForming · 16/02/2022 09:37

I guess if you lived there you'd get into the habit of timing your visits to the beach for the times when it was nice.

It's on a river estuary. It's like a mud/sand beach. The water is usually miles away. The town itself has rough parts (like anywhere I guess) so choose where you live carefully.

My friend lives in Weston, she loves it, kids are at a great primary school, loads to do in and around the place.
The A&E shuts at 10 or 10.30 so you then have to make the half hour trip to Bristol.
I can ask her any specifics you may want to know. She moved from Hampshire and doesn't have any regrets.

Hi Thanks

We would also be moving from Hampshire. The only down side we have found is the crime rate looks bad. Can you ask your friend if she thinks it's bad and any areas to avoid.

Thanks 👍

We are currently looking at all costal towns. Ideally not too far away from family. So aiming 2hours max from Basingstoke area. But having a tough time ticking boxes so Good schools, good hospital, good crime rate etc

Portishead? Clevedon?

Penvelopey · 16/02/2022 10:08

Again both estuary but nicer

The centre of Weston isn't very nice, lots of shops shut down but my friend lives in Uphill which is lovely

Weston gets a lot of bad press, to be fair a good portion is deserved but we moved here as it was cheaper than other areas like Clevedon and we've decided to stay as we love it. The main town centre plus a couple of areas are rough but there's some lovely areas such as uphill, worlebury, Milton hillside, wick st Lawrence, north Worle.

The beach is huge, there's sand point and middle hope, woods with a park, uphill nature reserve, the river banwell, lots of fields on the outskirts. Right by the Mendip hills. Train into Bristol and Bath is easy, you have the m5 (although school holidays on Fridays and bank holiday Mondays is a pain in the arse). Job wise it's rubbish but we worked in the city anyway. Birmingham, Devon, north cornwall and cardiff/Newport an easy drive away.

She has said .. Oldmixon, Bournville, coronation. Those are the estates that are a bit ropey.Everywhere has a bad crime rate around here. Because of the drug rebab centres. Everyone gets sent here. But worle, weston village, hutton, uphill, st George's, west wick, wick st Lawrence and haywood village are ok. Worlebury and seafront parts of town are nice too
