Melbourn village college

Hi all, can anyone please share views on this school? We are thinking of moving to the village but are worried about the most recently published results. Thanks

I’d be interested in people’s opinions too. It’s our catchment school but historically many people have chosen St Bede’s or Sawston, but the demographics mean that’s no longer an option.

Agree that it doesn’t look great on paper, especially considering it’s South Cambridgeshire, but everyone we know who goes there is very happy with it. Not sure about the head, but the deputies are very popular. They run buses to the villages after the clubs later on in the day, which is nice.

I think the fact that it’s expanded, along with more pushy parents having to send their kids there because they don’t get a choice is a positive and the latest results on the website (unofficial due to Coronavirus) are somewhat better. The Ebacc scores will be rubbish because they teach Mandarin; very few people will take that at GCSE so they don’t get an Ebacc. The mandarin teaching predates the Ebacc.

Two kids got straight 9’s at GCSE last year, which is not bad out of fewer than 100 pupils, of which a significant amount have SEND.
