Hitchin House Opinions Please

Hi all.

Pregnant with our first and have decided it's time to leave London. We looked at St Albans and Harpenden last weekend as trains to Kings Cross & Blackfriars are important. What we can afford (circa 700k for 3+ bedrooms) in St Albans was either too small, or too far out. We LOVED Harpenden but I think it's out of budget for the kind of house we want.

I've just spotted this house and I would love your thoughts. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/115738877#/channel=RES_BUY

Biggest downside I can see is it's on a main road and it's permit parking on nearby residential roads. Can anyone give me any more info on that road or general area? There seem to be quite a few flats around, are they well looked after?

Has anyone had experience of being new to the area and being able to find things to do/ make friends? And has anyone had experience of being on maternity leave in Hitchin, is there much going on for babies?

Thanks so much, all replies much appreciated!

There is 2/3 pubs and a number of takeaways in close proximity which could be a pain on a Friday/Saturday night. That road is an extremely busy as main route into the town centre.

I'm from Hitchin, love that place so much.

The house isn't far from the town centre walking, and if you're going back to working in London the station is near. Plus the fast train is only 25 minutes to Kings Cross.

I have taken my children to lots of different baby classes too, baby sign, sensory, dance.

Letchworth is only a 10 minute drive and lots of activities for kids too.

Love Hitchin, it's such a pretty town.

If you're wanting to avoid a busy road, there are some lovely villages on the outskirts.

Good luck!

That's a busy road and as a PP said has a pub and takeaways, however I love Hitchin. Loads to do there, lovely town centre. Good soft play place nearby. Very much full of young well to do families. You also have Stevenage (where I live) and Letchworth on either side. I think it's a lovely place to raise a family.
