Moving to Marlow

Hi all - new to mumsnet so hopefully I’m doing it right. Looking to move from West Hampstead to marlow (currently on Mat leave with my little one - now 10weeks). My DH will need to commute to bond st 2/3 times a week and my job is based in Marylebone however thinking I could try work locally (I work in a cosmetic skin clinic so thinking there could be a few around the area ha) We are just wondering what the commute is really like? We absolutely love Marlow but worried the commute isn’t do-able. Be thankful of any guidance! All the best x

I’d imagine getting the train from Marlow itself would be a bit of a ball-ache - you would definitely need to change at Maidenhead, and possibly at Bourne End too.
Once Crossrail finally starts properly, your DH’s commute would be very straightforward from Maidenhead - whether he took the train from Marlow and changed, or drove to Maidenhead to park.
If you are going to Marylebone, you’d be better off driving to High Wycombe and parking there to get the train into Marylebone rather than Paddington, but I guess it’s not that far from Paddington to Marylebone.

What is drawing you to Marlow specifically? Maidenhead would be more straightforward from a commuting perspective, but I appreciate you may just prefer the thought of living in Marlow compared to Maidenhead!

Have you seen the housing stock in Marlow? It’s honestly pretty awful. We recently moved here, and always planned to buy in Marlow. But the more I see of it the less I like it, and we’ve just had an offer accepted on a place in Maidenhead. I’ve met lots of people here who said the same.

PP is right, the train would be annoying. During rush hour in the morning I think you wouldn’t need to change at bourne end, but definitely would at Maidenhead. In the evening you’d have to change at bourne end as well I think (I used to live in bourne end and get the train to Maidenhead for work).
But there are some fast trains from Maidenhead.

I don’t know about the train journey times but what about somewhere around Beaconsfield? That line goes to Marylebone.

Beaconsfield is fab. Quick links into Marylebone, lovely town, great schools and very close to Marlow and Amersham for shopping/restaurants/bars.
