Old or new town

We are looking at places in Edinburgh - we think new or old town (don’t need schools). Anyone got any opinions on these?

Ideally we want to be able to walk places and not have a car.

Thanks

Between the two I would vote New Town. More open street plans and shared green spaces. Slightly easier parking as well.

Very much depends on what you are looking for though, there are nice (and central) places outside those two areas to live in Edinburgh. But if you are looking for a flat in the middle of town and have enough funds to buy a nice one, then New Town.

Thank you @WhereIsThisGoing. Where are the other central places? I will have a look at those as well

Agree, New Town every time - and quieter than Old Town, especially in summer. Stockbridge? Dean Village?

Thanks @Crowdfundingforcake. I knew about Dean village - it’s lovely. Will add Stockbridge to my list

Another vote for Stockbridge. Bruntsfield is also lovely and (slightly) better connected than Stockbridge. Morningside is great but is possibly bordering on not counting as very central anymore though has fantastic cafés, independent shops etc.
