Moving to Surrey!

Reposting from the property thread:

Hi all,

My DH and 2 young DC are looking to move out of SW London for more space quality of life etc. We have a budget of 650 and would like 3 bedrooms and garden with a relatively quick commute into Westminster where DH's office is about once or twice a week. My family is in central London and my DHs in Berkshire so we would ideally be within 45 mins of both.

We're looking at Walton, Weybridge, Epsom, Esher basically all of Surrey but also considering Bershkire now given our apparently modest budget.

We would also consider smaller towns and villages given they have easy access to larger towns for shopping coffee essentials etc.

We're at a bit of a dead lock as everything I love is closer into town but too small in my husbands opinion and everything he loves is too far from London for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions or any towns/ villages they recommend?

Our DD begins school in sept 22 so we need to make a v quick move.

TIA

Would you look around Woking as it's a really quick train line and easier to get to Berkshire too.

SurreyMumOfOne · 19/11/2021 22:05

So have you ruled out Walton, Weybridge and Esher or not? I would have thought you'd get something decent for 650. Can't tell from your post - but any of the towns on that train line would seem to suit your needs?

Best bet is probably Horsell or one of the other nice parts of Woking. Very quick train in but far enough out for easy journeys e.g. to Berkshire.

Yes Woking is still very much a candidate but also trying to find a more village-y vibe in a town. Are there any parts of Woking that you know of that sound like they could be a fit?

I don't know if it's a temporary phase that the market is going through but there's very little for 650 in Walton and there's absolutely nothing in Esher and Weybridge!

Appreciate your suggestion for Woking will def have a look 😊

Sorry, but there won’t be anything in Esher or Weybridge for your budget. Surrey is dreadfully expensive with lots of SW Londoners moving there..
Maybe Hampshire around Farnborough/Aldershot?

Svalberg · 20/11/2021 06:23

Fleet is only just in Hampshire and has excellent rail connections to London

I'll message you!

Epsom is perfect. You would just get a 3 bed for 650k.

Look in the College Area if you want a villagey feel 15 minutes walk from the station. It really is a lovely area to live.

Wipingsides · 20/11/2021 18:28

Hersham is a bit cheaper if you like Walton / weybridge/ esher but you're looking at small ex council housing for that budget I'm afraid. Addlestone / chertsey might be option. Train lines not great tho. Byfleet might be worth looking at. How many bedrooms / outside space etc are you hoping for?

Wipingsides · 20/11/2021 18:30

Sorry just re-read your OP re bedrooms etc! What kind of vibe do you like? Towny/ villagey/ rural... I know the area pretty well.

PurplePizzaCake · 20/11/2021 18:56

I'd recommend Sunbury or Shepperton. More affordable than some places but still nice enough. It's a slower train line, but if you're in Sunbury you can get the bus to Feltham and then you're on a quick train line

What do you think of this house? Is it in a nice area?

Town/ villagey if close to a town!

650 for Weybridge?? wishful thinking unfortunately

SoosanCarter · 20/11/2021 23:11

That house in Ruden Way is nowhere near anywhere villagey. It’s near Epsom Downs station but the line takes ages into London.

FriedasCarLoad · 20/11/2021 23:17

Dorking. Attractive market town surrounded by beautiful countryside. Or Cranleigh if you don't mind a drive to the station.

So much of Surrey is beautiful, but I really wouldn't count Woking in that - sorry!

Movinghouseatlast · 21/11/2021 11:23

It's a nice area, near the Downs. It probably feels a bit more suburban than villagey in the roads up there.

Movinghouseatlast · 21/11/2021 11:25

This is in the College Area

Shepperton is really nice and a bit cheaper but the train service is not as good as Walton, Weybridge, Esher. The high street is good though with mainly independent shops. 2 butchers, 2 bakers, greengrocers etc. Nice primary schools, decent secondary.

JuneFromBethesda · 21/11/2021 11:30

Have a look around Ewell West or Ewell East stations - both serve Ewell Village, which does feel a bit more villagey than Epsom, for example.
