Relocation to Sheffield HELP!

Hi Everyone,

I’m hoping to get some advice as right now I feel a little lost!!!

My husband, son & I are hoping to relocate to the ‘Sheffield’ area. Having lived in the south east for many years for work, we are finally in the position to leave the London rat race behind us and move away from the area. We are trying to find somewhere semi-rural but with a small town or village community not far away. Where we currently live there is no sense of ‘belonging’ in our experience and we hope to find this.

My daughter is already studying at the University of Sheffield and my son will need to be able to get to Dearne Valley College (Manvers site) to complete his Level 3 Forestry course that he’s already started down here. My husband will occasionally need to commute too.

We have stayed in Matlock when we visited our daughter and thought it beautiful, however, I think this is too far away from the college in Manvers. Sooooo, the million dollar question is, can anybody advise me of towns or villages that are nice to live and more importantly, where to avoid! We are having to look within about a 25 mile radius of Manvers but know nothing about anywhere so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks so much

Sheffield is an amazing city!

If you're wanting to move to the city centre then Nether Edge, Hunters Bar, Sharrow Vale, Ecclesall and Endcliffe areas are all very nice (definitely the most expensive areas in the city though!). They're usually in the S11/S7 postcode areas. Some lovely areas in S6 and S10 as well.

Outside of the city, and possibly too far away from Manvers for you, Dore and Totley are really lovely villages.

If you want to be close to Manvers, the village of Wentworth is beautiful but very expensive. Public transport links are also poor, so you'd need to drive.

Bumping for you, presumably you will want somewhere on the train line into Sheffield? That might narrow it down a bit for you. Are you interested in Watersports? There is a lovely community run boathouse in Manvers which does all sorts of Watersports.

Elsecar is on the train line, close to Wentworth and bits of it are very lovely.

Thank you for your help. Ideally near a train line but driveable commute is doable too if this increases accessible areas x
