Hypnobirthing

Hello

I have been doing a lot of reading up on the Mongan technique of birthing (Hypnobirthing)
There does not seem to be any coaches in the area. The method seems really good and tries to take away the fear of birthing and put the control back to the parents. Has anyone heard of any support that we can get with trying to achieve our goal? We have bought the book.

Many thanks

Christina

Hi Christina

I don't know where abouts you are in Oxon, but there is a course in Chipping Norton on a regular basis and one in central oxford. I will look up the details and post it on the local listings.

Hi Christina

Naomi was my midwife for some of my first pregnancy -she's based at Chippy Maternity unit (you can delivery there from anywhere in Oxfordshire) it's a nice unit. Most of the midwives there are completely used to hypnobirthing mums as well so it might be a good choice for you.

Naomi is very capable, but I found her slightly scary, mind you, I found much of pregnancy and birth that way!

Are you up this side of Oxford then? If so, perhaps we should meet up. I'm in Barford St Michael (up near Deddington). I'm due late July/early August (still breastfeeding so due dates are a bit sketchy!)

You have a lovely christmas too.

Hi WMMC

How did you find birth at Chippy? I went there afterwards (was great), but couldn't bring myself to have the birth there - a bit of a 'what if' person! Plan on going again this time (prob July) but with all the maternity changes have been told that mothers are only being allowed one night in maternity care, whether Chippy, JR2 or Horton so need to check out what the score is, if this is the case I, unfortunately, can't see Chippy being open for much longer as a lot of people who go there are 'transferees'.

Did think bout hypnobirthing last time, but not sure DH would be up for it!

Hi Rachel

I live near Wallingford, but Naomi was willing to travel to carry out the classes at home. i have another meeting with her Sunday for our second session. i am due in March, but it would be nice to meet up

Apparently she has given lectures to all the midwives in oxfordshire so they should all have some knowledge... I have just changed my midwife (seeing as i could not get an appointment with mine and it meant i was under the Royal Berks and after seeing the state of the loos on 2 different occassions)!!! i have now transferred to Wallingford, who are fab... they seem really supportive of using hypnobirthing.

beepbeep... Hello if you are interested in hypnobirthing, i would really recommend getting the book... it is available from the hypnobirthing website, but if you go onto Amazon you can get the American version which comes with a free CD which is really good. it will help you implement the tecniques and hopefuly give you the support you need to have a 'fear free' birth.

i have spoken to 5 different midwifes about their views on the Mongan technique and they had all witnessed it being put into practice and could not praise it enough... one midwife said that she did not believe that the woman was birthing her child until she saw the head as she was so calm! sounds worth a go to me!!!

take care

Christina
