Polite reminder - feeding other peoples ponies can kill them

Hi everyone,

This has been happening a lot in the area and some horses I know have been really ill unfortunately. There's also been quite a few cases where horses have died across the country.

I want to preface this by saying I know it's well intentioned, but unfortunately feeding other peoples horses can make them really poorly or worse. Horses can't vomit like most animals can so if they have food that they can't digest it's really dangerous. They are also prone to choking and can choke easily if fed by someone who isn't experienced.

Some people think that well known horse treats such as apples, carrots or parsnip ect are a safe bet, but some horses have sensitive stomach's and can't digest these foods, or are prone to choking on them. Grass cuttings are also very toxic to horses as the way they ferment can cause horses stomachs to rupture. It's really not safe to feed anything at all unless you know the horse and have agreed with the owner.

Thank you for understanding. Please spread to word to help keep the horses safe, that is the best treat you can give them!

Jane
