Moving to Chester or Runcorn?

Dear all,

We are planning to move from overseas to UK,
We have a son aged 5, i was considering to move to Stockport in Manchester, but my immigration agent recommended Chester since most of the good schools in Stockport are oversubscribed.
Chester would be a nice location for family.

We never been to UK before, can anyone who lives in there can share their comments about it?and any good areas in Chester?

I grew up in Chester and only left a couple of years ago. It's lovely...the best school area is Christelton. Both Christelton Primary and Christelton High get the best results and you need to live in Christleton Village to get in there.

Having said that, Upton High School is ok...not great but not certainly not terrible.

If you're happy with Upton High School you might also consider Mickle Trafford as a place to live because the primary school there is excellent and the majority of kids leave there and go to Upton High.

Mickle Trafford and Christleton and very nice places to live. They are smallish villages just a couple of miles out of Chester city centre.

Hoole is also lovely....a lot of children live in Hoole and go to Upton High.

I lived in both Hoole and Mickle Trafford during my time in Chester.

Chester is a nice city and Hoole has a lovely villagey feel. Hoole has a mix of property styles and I always thought Upton was nice. I lived in Hoole and appreciated the proximity to the train station as I regularly commuted to Manchester and London.

Housing is relatively affordable and there is plenty to do. You're close to great countryside as well.

If you were considering Stockport have you thought about Trafford (Hale/Altrincham/Timperley/Sale)?

Dear Zampa,
I was considering Cheadle and Cheadle Hulme at the beginning, Trafford is much more competitive on school place, even the ofsted rating is good, most of them are on long waiting list.

We are planning to immigrate on late July, so we assume our son will join the class after summer holiday.

Westminster Park is closer to The Lache which isn't a very nice area. You also might get stuck with Queens Park High School which I would not recommend.
