Hi

We are new to the area and my son failed to gain a space at our preferred secondary school for Y7 Sept 21.

We’ve been offered CVC.
Tried to research it as much as possible. Can anyone offer me some advice/opinions on this school.

I’ve looked at ofsted and league tables and so far I’m worried. Attendance seems to be an issue...? Currently in RI.

He’ll know no one at this school, as he currently attends a primary school out of the area.

Any pearls about this school would be welcome please.

Thanks in advance.

PS 1st choice was Saint Bedes on religious grounds and despite being in criteria 1 we are on the waiting list.

I know lots of people who are very happy with it.

Results are above local and national averages, both on attainment and progress measures.

RI was on two main issues - one was to do with the sixth form, which is in the process of being detached and made part of the Centre School (special school on same site - the sixth form is vocational). The other was bullying, but they've worked hard on tackling that, and in fact I don't know any pupils currently there who've had problems with bullies in school.

The bulk of the kids come from the feeder schools, but there are quite a number from out of catchment, so he's unlikely to be the only one who doesn't know anyone. They usually have a full induction week in July. In any school, friendships shift in years 7 and 8, and he'll soon make friends.

Attendance is better than national averages - and besides, your child's progress depends on their attendance, not everyone else's.

I really wouldn't worry.
