Hi there!
I'm looking for any (recent) reviews of the Montessori Arts School in Edinburgh. We have been offered a space but have heard conflicting things so any information would be GREATLY appreciated!! We are quite stressed about wether to not to send our daughter as it is quite a big commitment. Thanks so much!!

Myself and my children had a truly awful experience, traumatising and that is being kind.

I gather the Montessori Nursery at Murrayfield is evolving soon to offer elementary / primary schools years too.
I decided against it in the end, but there is a lot that’s attractive about the Montessori approach.

Hello,
Following this thread from 2021, did you end up sending your child to EMAS Edinburgh? What has the experience been?
Many thanks!

MammaRoaraSaurus · 27/12/2024 09:11

Has there been any update on this? I’m looking to maybe send my child to the school. Thanks

Look up the care inspectorate, they have three upheld complaints against them

KlaraHi · 27/12/2024 18:03

Can you provide the link? I cannot see anything on the Care Inspectorate. Thank you

I don’t want to say too much on this but what I will say is think long and hard about sending your kids here - my friend used to work here, two children there and promptly moved them to another private school within the city. She found that it became a bit of a special needs school, which is fine, and certainly needed, but it’s not equipped for that and the children without special needs were abandoned. She realised how behind her daughter was when she sat an entrance exam for another school and was told she was really below the level expected. She actually ended taking her out three days and week and homeschooling! I don’t know about the Murrayfield one but certainly the Liberton one doesn’t sounds good

I didn't have a great experience. They kept sending my 4yr old kid home early, and this went on for several months (because he said he was tired or he was struggling), and then when I asked for a refund for all the hours I paid for but didn't get ,my emails were ignored. I changed my son to a local school and he was absolutely fine from day three...stayed full day with absolutely no issue at his new school.

We're very interested in the Montessori method and planning to visit the Liberton one - the website and videos look really lovely, very Instagramable and idyllic. However, these comments seem concerning and consistent. Anyone else has news on this? We're struggling to take a decision since we shoul choose a school (state) in the next weeks but we believe the Montessori method is more child-centred. Many thanks!

On the back end, it’s dysfunctional and chaotic. Management is emotionally reactive.

Yes, I can see that. We visited it and had a bizarre, toxic vibe. No questions about the child at all (personality, interests, current nursery or school, etc.) despite proclaiming again and again that Montessori is the best method for a child to develop their true selves. Their only questions were about our location (commuting) and jobs (salaries). Then, 5 days later, we got an email saying that since 'we've seen the child already, you can put their name in the waiting pool', which sounded as if we'd been tested and, lucky us, passed an exam we didn't know we were taking.

Obviously, we're not remotely considering it.
