The Perse

My daughter has received two offers so far and we are now just waiting the hear if she has been successful at The Perse following her interview. I think that the school would be a good fit for our daughter but as I don’t know anyone with children at the school I have been doing lots of searches on sites like this. There is one post from one year ago which has been playing on my mind, it basically said that the school was sexist when it came to STEM (by both boys and some teachers) and understandably has me rethinking our choices going forward. Does anyone have any daughters at this school and how has their experience been?

Sorry can not answer about your specific question about Perse but we are also waiting for Perse results.

I assume your DD has an offer from SPF and St Marry?

How was a Perse interview for your DD? For my DD it was non academic so not sure how are they going to decide this year.

Hi Yourfriend.

The perse seemed to leave their change of exams to the very last minute but my daughter seemed to cope ok with that ... think the online tests are probably easier ??? (Although feel bad saying that as I am sure i couldn’t have managed them) The offers are from SPF and STAHS (st albans) ... all have pros and cons.

I think the interview went ok? I don’t have any experience of this and we have had no external help so its just a case of fingers crossed. My daughter never really gets stressed and handles herself well, which makes it hard for me to gage :-)

What did you make of the interview?

Hi Thelancs,
Congratulations to your DD for securing two offers. I thought you had only applied in Cambridge or around.

As we don’t know anyone I started one thread but was no response so may be parents are bit relaxed here!

It is difficult to get something out of the kids now on how it went as she always says it was good! My DD is on waiting list for SPF and their interview was complete academic. Even I am not sure how many external places are being offered in SPF in year-7.

For Perse, as they have done some filtering based on written test has raised hopes but again we don’t know how many were being called for interview for 70 or so places in Y7. It was an informal interview apart from one question where some pictures were shown and asked to say a story around it.

We received an offer in the post today! I had Wednesday in my head for results so it was a lovely surprise. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Congratulations. Our daughter started Y7 last September. So far so great, and no obvious signs of sexism yet.

Slapukas · 28/02/2021 08:29

My son received a Y9 offer at Perse. Is this school still so good as it advertises to be?

Thelancs · 28/02/2021 19:38

Oldwhyno .. thank you for the reassurance. We have accepted a place at the perse and feel that it will suit our daughter very well Smile

My son goes to the Perse. It is brilliant, very academic and the girls seem to more than hold their own. They are all extremely independent minded and absolutely zero sexism from what I know. There is incredible choice on subjects and all pupils are supported. If I had an able daughter I would have zero concerns. The only issue may be that all pupils hold themselves to extremely high standards.

Whatonearth07957 · 22/06/2021 19:04

But also and most importantly all my son's friends seem genuinely kind too and accepting of differences whatever they may be. I hope that allays any concerns.

Hi Thelancs, do you mind share your final choice?

The Perse, SPF and STAHS (st albans) are all my targets for my DD (Year 9) next autumn. It seems The Perse is the best academically (please correct me if I'm wrong), but I am concerned about the boy to girl ratio (60% boys?), not sure if my DD can fit in the school.

mastertomsmum · 10/10/2021 16:16

60% boys is fine as it is a large school. There are technically more girls independent places in Cambridge because we have one all girls independent (St Mary’s)
