Relocating to Bristol with small children.

We live in London and want to relocate to the South West this year, lockdowns permitting. We managed to get to Bristol last summer and really liked the look of Bedminster/Knowle area. It looked like it had lovely houses and nice parks. Our kids are three and five and we're looking at state primary and three bedroom for around £350,000.

Does anyone live in that area or nearby? Would you recommend to a family with small children?

I live in Knowle and I think it's a nice area to live with a small family (DCs are 7 and 3). I had lived in Brislington for 8 years before moving to knowle. I don't think you can go wrong if you live in Bedminster/Totterdown/Knowle/Brislington areas as people are friendly and there's a nice community atmosphere.
The state primary schools are good but you may also want to have a look at the secondary school options available in South Bristol.

I lived in bedminster (the windmill hill bit) when DS1 was tiny. I enjoyed it and still have friends in southville so go back now and then, it still seems to have the same feel as when I lived there. Our street had a lovely community feel. My friend’s street is even better as they do ‘playing out’ - once every couple of months the street is closed to traffic and the kids all play out together (while adults drink wine I think!). In normal times there was plenty to do with children in bedminster and it’s easy to get into the centre of bristol. We moved as our house was all steps, not ideal for children, and we wanted a bigger garden than you can get in the city.

That's the impression I got last year so good to know, thank you! I really like the idea of the streets being closed off so the kids can play.
