State secondary vs private schools West London

Interested in hearing views from anyone considering Chiswick School… or anyone who currently has children there.
The new head seems impressive and mentions she wants the school to compete with the offering in nearby private schools.
Does anyone have views on whether this is realistic, or anyone have a basis for comparison they could share (ie experience of both private senior or prep schools and Chiswick School)? How does Chiswick School fare for relatively high-achieving children and those who are average?
We are new to the area having come back from abroad and not sure we can afford private for both DCs (currently 10 and 7).
Thank you.

Bless. She has a hell of a mountain to climb.

Do you know the school well @JuliaJohnston?
Definitely interested to hear if you have any direct experience, good, bad or average!
And to correct my earlier post, the school website doesn't quite say "compete with the offering" but just "compete with private schools".

Fairly well. It has a Godawful reputation in the community, the behaviour of the pupils (knifepoint muggings, if you can credit it) certainly does nothing to mitigate the already dubious attainment results.
Have you considered the West London Free School, or Hammersmith Academy? Neither totally problem free, but a world away from the Chiswick School.

No I’m pretty sure we live too far from the two you mention, thanks anyway.

But I’d be interested to know where your information on knife crime comes from @JuliaJohnston?
It’s a rather serious allegation so do you have children at the school or do you know the victim?
And if they were proven to be pupils from that school, were they not identified and dealt with by the police and the school?

If anyone else currently has children there, especially in the lower years, and has any comments about the school, it would be great to hear your views on the school generally (or on the comments from JuliaJohnston).

Whaaaat? Well Chiswick School must have gone through a dramatic change since I worked there 3years ago when it was a complete shambles.

I don't have children there (!), and yes, the pupils concerned were in full uniform, in broad daylight.
