NotAnOtter · 15/10/2007 14:08

i like it!

It has been declared the booziest town in the country today!!!!

i have only just moved here and not met one person who does not like living here (unlike my last place where everyone hated it)

What famous people live in/around Harrogate? Do you know of any?

bettythebuilder · 30/10/2007 20:37

I literally stood on Stuart McCalls (ex-pro-footballer, now manager) foot in the leeds road post office. God knows how many thousands of pounds damage I caused there

(and yes, I think Harrogate's great, too!)

Just left Harrogate for north Leeds, but still come back frequently as go to NCT playgroup and have lots of friends, aaaaand love the shops !!

fullmoonfiend · 03/11/2007 12:36

empem, we have the actor who plays Marlon Dingle living here, Danny Mills (footballer) and Hugo Speers (from Full Monty) that I know of. Also Richard Hammond came from Ripon). Sure there are others but I'm probably not the best person to ask as i am not a mover or a shaker

I once kissed Hugo Speer at New Year - it was a long time before he was famous - I must have been 17 and am now 35!

Years later me and DH ended up living next door but one to his Mum - and even had her and his brother round for SUnday dinner once - they were both really lovely.

Why is Harrogate so rubbish for shopping for baby stuff. All I can find is Mothercare! (and I quite like Everything But the Baby) Am I missing something???

Well, there's Next, Gap, George at Asda, all the children's shoe shops down from Gravelley's, but mostly the charity shops, the wonderful Harrogate charity shops! (and the Ilkley and Otley ones are even better.) Both of my children have been brought up in beautiful expensive barely worn French fashions, second hand Gap and Next which last forever with the odd bit of George bought in new. It's often stuff I would never be able to find new never mind afford. Hooray for Yorkshire penny-pinching!

I went to school in Harrogate (lived at Norwood-nr the Sun Inn) but now am in Otley. Love Harrogate.
Also, if you're in Otley, there's Mackays (one in ilkley aswell) & Friday market has a baby stall. Otley has as many 2nd hand shops as it does pub's nearly!!
