Moving to Stroud

Hi all, We are planning on moving to Stroud and looking for some guidance from locals about what area best suits are needs. We like the idea of the villages around Stroud but also like the creativity and alternative-vibe Stroud has, and wondering if this can still be found in villages nearby? Our kids are 6 and 8, so a good primary and secondary are important. We would like to be in the countryside and to have a house with a big garden if poss (our budget is max 550,000). I am a mental health nurse so need to find work somewhere nearby, and my husband will be commuting so needs to be a cycle ride from a train station. Thanks so much for your help!

I would suggest Randwick/Whiteshill. They both have a primary school and are within easy reach of secondary when the time comes. Both have stunning views and Randwick has quite a lot of village activities.

They're both in cycling distance of Stroud train station (as long as he's very fit because it's all up hill on the way home!) and put you on the right side of Stroud for an easy commute to Gloucester where there is a mental health unit attached to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Thank you for your reply! Do you have any opinions on chalford? There are lots of houses available there and sounds like a good area.

Chalford is lovely but probably a bit too far out to cycle. It can also be tricky in bad weather because it's at the top of a really steep hill. We used live nearby in Bussage and the road was treacherous in icy weather.

Oh, you might have noticed a hill theme developing - Stroud sits in the heart of five valleys. It makes for beautiful scenery but hills in all directions!

Beware the hills!

@myerkat did you make the move? We are thinking about it as an area
