Hi all, I and my family come from Hong Kong, we are planning to settle in Swansea in early 2021.

I am looking for a good secondary school, my girl is 9 yrs old now.

Is Olchfa School good? We want to live in Sketty, is it a correct chatchment area of this school?

We are Catholic, any good Cathloic secondary school in Swansea?

Olchfa is considered to be an excellent school :)

Happy to hear that, hope I can find a house near the school.

Out of curiosity, why Swansea?

TroysMammy · 16/09/2020 20:55

Olchfa is the catchment area for Sketty as my niece goes to Sketty Primary and will be going to Olchfa next September. Bishop Gore is also in Sketty but I mainly see pupils walking home towards the Uplands and city centre.

I think Bishop Vaughan is a catholic secondary school.
JackBauer24 and why not Swansea?

Doesn't seem to be a popular choice among Hongkongers, hence the ask

@JackBauer24 @TroysMammy
Never mind, it is also a popular question my friends ask me.

Hong Kong is a commercial city, very crowed, very busy. I want to find a totally different place to live, so I choose Wales.

Cardiff is also my choice but considered the house price and criminal rate, finally Swansea.

My daughter become a teenage, I hope to find a safe and peaceful place for her growth up. And I hope my parent in law can enjoy their life in a relaxing place.

If you are local I would check where the nearest Chinese supermarket is. You will be surprised at how much you miss food from home. I would also consider somewhere with a vibrant restaurant scene as eating out will be a big step change from home. Transport is very sketchy and you will probably need a car.

TroysMammy · 17/09/2020 07:24

I'm sure there are Chinese food shops in Swansea. Maybe not stand alone but possibly incorporated in world food shops. Also there's a Chinese community in Swansea.

Got what you mean. I'm from Hong Kong too Grin

I imagine life is much simpler in Swansea with a lot less to do, but as long as you are prepared for that it is all good

@JackBauer24
Wow! Nice to meet you. How long have you been? Are you work in Swansea?
