Just spotted this! I'm near Godalming and looking to join a book group... I keep asking around but nothing
Would you be interested in starting one with me? What do you like/want to read?
I really enjoy a huge wide range of books, from Du Maurier to Anne Tyler, via The Kite Runner(can't remember author!) and virtually anything else. I'm not great on crime and thrillers, but open to persuasion!
Let me know if you're interested - I'm 36 BTW with a 4 year old dd.

Hello - we have just moved from Godalming to guildford - I will ask a Godalming friend if she knows of any Bookclubs based locally - she and I tried to start a Godalming one but it never got over 4 members - although we had a few fun nights - would prefer to find one if possible but I know what you mean I have the same problem - so I guess it is the other option - I don't have contact for you but if I find one in Godalming or Guildford I will post to let you know - and if I can't find anything I'll post that too

I wonder if there are any others reading this who want to join too????

Hi whichwitch. I guess thats the problem - knowing where people are advertising for new people... I've been looking for ages. Waterstones in Godalming do something (next Tuesday night they're talking about The Island - haven't decided if I'll go or not) but I'm really looking for something more personal...
I'll let you know if I find anything.

I've also been looking for a local bookclub to join and had the same problems finding one. Would be interested in joining if you're setting one up?

Just moved to Hindhead from Witley, and need to resurrect the life I had before children. I'm (very) late 30's with 2 dd's, a 3-year old and a 19-month old.

Well Ladies - I have also tried GumTree and have had no responses. I have had a message from a man also looking for a bookclub and not finding one - so may have to try and start one - SO any Ladies of Guildford interested in joining me - please reply - I live top end of town and would probably go for a house based meeting and see how it goes.

Look forward to hearing from you

Thanks

Just found this again - I do struggle to find things on MN!

Sounds good to me! I wonder if a pub/coffee shop type meeting might be best first, just til we get to know people? I don't know that going to /having strange people in your house is something I'd feel happy with!

What do you think?

Hi, I would be interested in a book club.

Am late 30's with two young school age boys. I am in central guildford.

hotcrossbunny · 15/10/2007 14:18

Hooray!

Will bump for others...

hotcrossbunny · 15/10/2007 16:39

bump

whichwitch · 15/10/2007 18:05

Forgot to add - needs to be an evening thing for me - could be a showstopper I guess.

I have had two contacts via Gumtree saying they are interested in both are men which I have no problem with but was hoping to meet some ladies from the area as I am new here and thought this would be a good way to do it. Haven't responed to them as yet - not sure what to say.

You could be right about the neutral venue for starters at least - didn't think it through.

Evenings are fine with me. Nice to do something 'grown up' for a change!

Don't mind either way about men coming along...unless it would inhibit our recruiting others? Also I guess it would possibly affect the type of books we choose. I'd like to make some new friends too as well as having the opportunity to discuss what I'm reading with people who are interested. Dh doesn't share my taste in books

bump before it disappears...
