Moving to Guildford

Hello. My partner and I are looking to move to Guilford from Kingston. Houses nearer to Onslow village are a bit cheaper and was wondering what opinion was on living around there? Old threads (2011) had mixed reviews, but interested to know if things have changed. A few places I've seen will need renovation, is the council generally ok with giving planning permission?

i moved away from the area a few years ago park barn was generally to be avoided .The town centre is hit and miss some good places some not so good

But otherwise i wish i could live in Guildford its lovely
