Living at the end of Mill Road

Hello everyone,

I would like to know your views on how good (or bad) for a family with children the area between the end of Mill Road and Brooks Road is.

I am about to rent a house there (with plans to buy in the same area after some time) and I noticed there are two adjacent houses near The Brook pub selling at the same time.

HmmPerhaps the pub area isn't safe? Perhaps it is very noisy? Perhaps there is anti-social or violent behaviour in the neighborhood?

Please let us know. Thank you in advance!

Around Mill rd is a fantastic area to live. There’s so many lovely coffee shops restaurants and pubs. Plus it’s easy to walk to town. Lovely community too.

Romsey Town end of Mill Road is definitely better for shops, cafes and community life. The pavements at the Brookfields end of Mill Road are more narrow the further one gets towards the end on the side of the Rd where The Brook is. The junction with Brooks Rd is quite a busy one and they do have live music at The Brook. However, I wouldn’t say this was an area to avoid.

Schools: Primary catchment would probably be Ridgefield but St Philip’s is equally near. Both have good reputations. Secondary catchment would be Coleridge, currently thought of as on the up and St Bede’s which is a joint Anglican/Catholic foundation and has outstanding Ofsted.

Great bus route, handy for rail, local shops, 2 Coop’s, a tiny Tesco and Cambridge’s only large Sainsbury. 2 large parks - Romsey Rec (Vinery Rd) and Coleridge Park (Coleridge Rd). Lots of small parks too. Nature reserve access - Coldhams Common and Barnwell Nature Res, Snakey Path to Cherry Hinton Hall, The Tins Path to Cherry Hinton, not too far to Chalk Pits fossiling area. Churches and other places of worship include St Philip’s and the new Mosque.
