Hello. I'm looking for childcare for my 3 year and (will be) 8 month old in the Whitchurch area. Need 7.30 till 6, occasionally later, for 3 days per week, so nursery not an option. I've got till january to sort it out.. any suggestions or top tips as to how to go about it? All gratefully recieved.

I am a fully registered childminder and i work from home in the Heath area of Cardiff.
I have 2 full time vacancies for childen 0-5yrs and one vacancy for5-8yrs. I also pick up and drop off at Ton-yr-wren primery and nursery. I am CACHE qualified and have been CRB checked and am a member of the NCMA.

I would like som adv regarding how to interview a nanny? I had arranged for a nanny to start from Jan but did not sign a contract as she was employed by our friends and she was recommended by them? But I was let down last week as she is looking for another(possibly a better paid )job. This girl I am to interview tomorrow is newly qualified but sound very enthusiastic over the phone. I also would really appreciate if someone could tell how much a newly qualified ( no/min experience )diploma holder gets paid? PLEASE HELP. I DONT WANT TO DO THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN.

Hi Sams, didn't want your post to go unanswered but i'm afraid the Cardiff boards are pretty quiet. Sounds like a reasonable question though - how about trying the Childminders/Nannys/Au Pairs board (or whatever it's called.) I'm sure someone could offer better advice there.

Good luck with it though.

I was desperately checking the site every 30mins. The prospective nanny could not make it tomorrow.It is going to be day after. So have a bit of time. By the way What is this board- where can I find it.Tried searching within mumsnet cant find it. I do agree the cardiff boards are quiet.

If you go to the top of the page, under the blue bar, you'll find "topic list" which gives the whole list of boards. To be honest, I think a lot of people just use "active conversations" on the line just below it. Sorry if you're sucking eggs at this stage. Welcome to MN by the way. MaryMotherofcheeses. Found the topic and gathered lot of information. nothing about the pay as most of the thread is from London. Do you have any idea how much a newly qualified nanny gets paid?Recent development is that the previous nanny who was willing and didnot sign the contract wants to see me tomorrow and discuss it further.Not sure what to do as this nanny is good with the children and looked after my friends children including a newborn from 6 months.

ALMOST hired the nanny but the only sticky point is the duration of the holiday - she wants 6 weeks but I have told her that I can only give 5 weeks as I only get 5 weeks and I cant pay for her and for my children to be looked after during the extra week. She is thinking about it.

Probably way too late but I've have been in a nanny position since March and currently get £7p/h and my school age ds comes too outside of school hours. I do have experience though.

mogs0 - cardiff is very slow site. Try advertising in netmums/gumtree,
