Best and worst villages around Ely?

Hi, does anyone know areas best avoided or well regarded in the Ely area? We need to get to a station for work in London a couple of times a week but can get more (especially garden) for our money outside of town in villages such as Witchford, Coveney, Haddenham, Wicken, Witcham, Pymoor and Prickeillow, Aldreth. Also of concern are primaries and secondaries. I’d really appreciate any advice!

Does anyone else commute from an Ely village and how is it? Is parking reasonable?

Thanks!

Check out the local Facebook groups for Ely and surrounding villages and you might get more of a feel. I know Witchford, Haddenham and Aldreth. Nice villages but only Witchford has even a corner shop and that's not great. Witchford I think is about to lose its one pub. Haddenham has a bead shop! W and H have nice primary schools. Witchford secondary school is going through a bad patch.

Thanks CambridgeLightBlue, since posting we’ve had an offer accepted on a house 3 miles from Ely. Although, now I know about the bead shop, maybe we should have gone for Haddenham!! :) Our catchment school will be in Witchford. I’ve visited and it’s lovely. The secondary has a new head who seems to be promising, so hopefully in the next few years things will improve, if not we’ll have to look at colleges further away, but we’ll see what happens! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I heard about the pub in Witchford, I hope someone else takes it on. Yanks do much again, I’m going to join more Ely Facebook groups for sure.

The bead shop in Haddenham is great.

Witchford primary is very nice. Hopefully you won't need the college for a few years and it will be better by then. And hopefully your children don't have any SEN because it's particularly awful for that right now. Ely is a lovely area to be in and you're nice and near the cinema and restaurants there.

How far in from Ely are you prepared to be? You can commute to Ely train station in 15 mins from Fordham and the primary school in that village is rated Outstanding and came in the top 3 in Cambridgeshire for SAT results.

There’s also a big development of houses in the village about to go on the market!
