Advise on apartment near Reading train station

Contemplating move to Reading from Hounslow with 2 year old, we've got following criteria to rent:

1. 10-15 mins walk to Reading mainline train station and preferably to town centre. Safe area to live and walk to/from station even at night.
2. Indian community with culture of toddlers/children playing outdoor in building compound, if exist or in apartment corridors.
3. Nearby playground.

Very specific suggestions with apartment name would be great; on a broader level specific area suggestions are welcome too.

Do you absolutely have to get a flat, given that you have a toddler? Or do you think that you couldn't afford to rent a house?
