Frome? Current experiences? Schools?

We're considering moving to Frome from Bristol, wanting more space and a garden somewhere more green, but still wanting a town with a nice high street, coffee shops, things to do for kids, yoga, etc.

Frome seems absolutely lovely every time we visit, but all I can find on Mumsnet is people shit talking it! (unemployment, bad transport links, too white, yobs?).

I don't know how much of it to take with a grain of salt. Are there people with good experience of living in Frome?!

Schools are our primary worry since we see lots of people say the schools aren't good. Our DS is nearly 2. We can obviously look up OFSTED and the like online but I really want to hear about people's real life experience.

Would appreciate any advice!

Watching as about to move there, but no kids so can’t help on that front.

I'm watching this. I'm moving to Somerset this week for work and renting for 6 months while I look good somewhere to buy. So many people have so many opinions. I don't have school age children but I still want to live somewhere lovely.

We need all the people in Frome to come on and tell us! Grin

madcatladyforever this is our situation - we're renting in Bristol whilst we look for somewhere to buy. And there are so many opinions! Obviously somewhere more rural is always going to have some drawbacks - and I don't really like the use of 'chav' over and over in some of the descriptions of Frome. It seems snobby.

We''re quite open minded with our search and are considering a large area, but at the end of the day we don't want to live in a village. And we do just have to find somewhere! Everywhere has some negatives, right?!
