Sorry - what are balance bikes?!

amscar · 01/08/2007 18:06

Balance bikes are little bikes but they don't have any pedals. This means that a child learns to balance and steer before the added difficulty of learning to pedal. They enable a child to ride a bike without ever needing horrible stabilizers or that awful bit when you try to wean them off stabilizers. They are amazing and are all the rage in Europe. Little ones can start on them from the age of 2 right up to 5. Usually they are made from wood but my snazzy ones are made from lightweight aluminium. Do you feel a littel more enlightened?!!

Would they be any good for my nearly 8 year old? We have tried normal bikes but she always leans very heavily to one side - the idea of learning to balance is a good one, and we saw loads of these bikes in Denmark. She is quite tall for her age though!

Hi - to be honest with you I don't know if it would fit. I'm in St Johns just outside Woking. If you want, you are more than welcome to come over and let her see the bike and see if she fits it. I always recommend that the child sits quite squat on the bike anyway so at the highest setting it might be OK.
Hope thiis helps.
