Best secondary schools in Leeds for encouraging creativity & free thinking?

I'm trying to research secondary schools for my eldest child (age 10) who has been recently assessed for autism (currently waiting for results). His condition is relatively subtle but his school's inability / unwillingness to understand or cater for his particular needs has led him to have a difficult relationship with education. He's very bright with a natural talent for math but struggles with handwriting and drawing. His primary school has done little to encourage his creativity and has been somewhat stifling in terms of freedom of thought.

Whether or not an affirmative autism assessment for my son is forthcoming along with the services that can then be accessed, I'm really hoping to find a secondary school that puts a particularly strong emphasis on encouraging creativity and freedom of thought. Given his character, that is the kind of environment in which my son would be most likely to thrive.

At this stage it seems difficult to ascertain this kind of information about schools –many state that they focus on encouraging creativity but the most helpful feedback would be from fellow parents who have comparative experiences with secondary schools in the Leeds area.

Any thoughts or observations would be greatly appreciated.

State or private?

Silcoates in wakefield has a strong artistic/creative rep but is an indie

@anothernewone Thanks – ideally state but would also consider private if it made all the difference.

Cockburn School might be a good fit for him.
