Edinburgh Nursery Application

Hi All,

I'm in the process of finding a nursery place for my son this August. I have paid a deposit for Doune Terrace Nursery but recently at my baby sensory class one of the mum's told me she had applied for several places so that her son would definitely get into one. Call me naive but I didn't think of this! Should I apply for several different nurseries or hope that my first pick comes up? I'm not from Edinburgh and I'm a FTM so this whole nursery lark is new to me!

I presume Doune Terrace is a private nursery, in which case you have a place. Esp if you have paid a deposit. Give them a call to put your mind at ease. How old is your child (I'm thinking a baby/v young if at Baby Sensory). I wonder if the other mum is getting muddled about council funded nursery places which doesn't apply until after they are 3?

Hi there
Thanks for responding. All the nursery schools in Edinburgh are fee paid, you get some help when the child turns 3 but my son will be 10 months when he begins nursery. I have been led to believe nursery places are very sought after so no guarantees your child will get into the one you apply for. I will give the nursery a call, hopefully they can shed some light. Im already dreading going back to work and leaving him!

Surely if you have paid a deposit this means they have a space for your DC? That's how it used to work in my day.

I've no idea where doune terrace is but over in morningside area you needed to get onto about three waiting lists usually to be sure of a place, especially if within six months or so, waiting lists were more like 9 months or more for popular days.
