Moving to Bristol

Hi there,

We are looking to move to Bristol as hubby has been offered a transfer to their company office there. We spend a lot of time by the coast in Devon so really excited by the prospect of being nearer than our current landlocked location!

We would like to live in a village / smaller town approx 20-30 minutes outside of the City. Hubby happy to commute in by bike or public transport.

My main concern, although perhaps unwarranted, is the plane noise from flight path into Bristol? Are there any areas to avoid due to this?

Thanks in advance!

We v iewed a house in Winton village that was under the flight path (had aircon as could not open windows, too noisy) but unless you but a house right under the flight path you are fine in most places. Do u have children, Bristol schools are a whole other topic! Where abouts in bri will tour dh be working?

Thank you hollowvictory! That’s good to know!
Yes, we have one son who is 9 - the school search is in full flow - finding it very stressful. My OH will be working in Queen Square. We are thinking of looking of villages between Bristol and Bath - like Keynsham?

I live in Keynsham and work in central Bristol. There is aircraft noise but to be honest I hardly notice it (but then again I was brought up very close to Filton in the days of Concorde).
Commuting to central Bristol by car can be a nightmare during rush hour, but Keynsham does have a railway station and good bus links.

Keynsham is lovely. We live in Souh Bristol and have never noticed the flight noise.

Our biggest concern was traffic so we live 1.5 miles from work (near Queen’s Sq) so we can walk in.

Pensford could be another possibility.

Keynsham is a town rather than a village and considered a rather dreary one I'm afraid. Its nearer bath than Bristol but hasn't any real features. You would need a car there.

I would also suggest looking closer to the coast. The following ones may be suitable Backwell, Nailsea, Congresbury all work well for commuting via public transport.
Keynsham or Saltford would also work for you. Although the Bristol to Bath cycle path goes via Saltford it takes you the long way round compared to the distance by road. Cycling from Keynsham would be possible.
I quite like Keynsham but there have been problems with teenage anti-social behaviour there recently.

Ah fab - I shall take a look at those locations too.

Thank you all! This has been really helpful.
