Cheap accommodation for single parent student

Hello all,

I've just been offered an unconditional place at Cardiff and looking for advice/recommendations on areas to live. I need to keep costs to an absolute minimum as I'm not eligible for student loans etc.

Also are there any good primary schools in the area that would be good for my 5 year old DS. I suspect his ASD but very high functioning. Are there any to avoid?

I will have my car with me so travel 30 mins or so around Cardiff if it's cheaper?
