Hi ,

Looking at sending DS (p1) to watsons this year but I was wondering what's the overall primary 1 strength ? I am aware each class size is 21-22 but curious to know how many kids are in p1 in total? Especially with their new junior school building that is getting opened up this year .

Hi, I'm sure there are 1000 children in the primary school so possibly 5 or more p1 classes.

GW has a terrible reputation for bullying so please be aware.

Also, the assessment days have passed for p1 entry so are you looking for 2020?

There are 5 P1 classes. This will remain the case until p6, where they will introduce a new class.

My 2 are at GWC (P5 and P2) and we have found it to be a fantastic school. It is a big school - no escaping that, but because the lower primary (p1-3) is in a separate building, it doesn't feel big for them at such a young age. Mr Salmond, the junior head is a lovely man, and I can hand on heart say, all the staff and personel we have come across are great.

To be honest, you have to go with your gut as both GWC and GH are excellent, bear in mind location, and also the fact that GWC facilities are all on one campus.

this is the info on the building that is currently being built onto the Upper primary (p4-7)

The new accommodation will comprise:

Five new classrooms which, together with two existing classrooms, will enable P7 to be brought together in a cluster and will also provide space for a designated Modern Languages Classroom and enable us to take the JS ‘Huts’ out of service at last and provide an extra classroom for the additional P6 Class that will be joining in August 2018.
A new Upper Primary Library at first floor level
A new Music Suite and two large music classrooms
A new movement and nurture room
A new entrance and reception area for the Junior School
Upgraded toilets and accessibility to first floor of upper primary building for wheelchair users

Yes, I agree with kirkandpetal. 5 p1 classes in GWC with usually 22 in each one. My son (a shy, cautious child) loves it there and the other parents I know tell me that their children do too.
