Hello,
We are starting to look into schools for my daughter. I was wondering if anybody had any experience of either Faraday school or Gatehouse or Riverhouse montissori. Do you have children that attend these schools and can you tell me what your experience has been please? We have registered for all of them but are so confused!
Thanks in advance!

Sorry bit late answering this as not on very often. My kids go to Faraday and they love it. Great teachers and really nice community feel. Small classes and they have friends in all years. Both my kids have done really well and are very confident in speaking and sharing ideas.

can anyone share their the goods and bads of the 3 schools pls?

I was thinking that Faraday will be my first choice. I’ve heard it is less stressful than other prep schools, which is what I want. I also heard that it’s more focused on arts too? Could you advise?

Faraday has great provision within the curriculum for the arts and further scope and opportunities for pupils who enjoy and want to go further with art. It is a homely little school where every teacher knows all the students. I would say that it also provides great teaching with mixed ability classes (not sure what you mean by less stressful there)

Hello All ,

Picking up on this thread, I am considering Faraday (smaller setting, guess more personal attention) vs Colfe's junior school.(an all-through school, I guess broader exposure). DC is at nursery now.
Any experience, positives and negatives would be of great help.

thanks

I’ve decided on Gatehouse school. A lot of people didn’t think much of Farraday due to the education. Gatehouse seems like the best of both worlds.

Littlesock · 06/11/2022 22:31

@Climbergirl04 reviving this!

Did your child start at the Gatehouse? Are you happy with it?

I have just come across Faraday school and am interested in that too! Or any other alternatives.

Does anyone know where kids tend to go after the Gatehouse / Faraday etc for secondary?

Climbergirl04 · 06/11/2022 22:46

Hey, so we ended up going to Gatehouse for over a year now. It’s good, but if you are going for purely academic and pushing your child. Then it’s a good fit. The parents are lovely and supportive. I’m not a fan of the teaching or the headmaster. It’s not a very nurturing environment. We switched to Riverhouse and feel it’s a really good fit for him. Secondary: usually Blackheath, Latymer, Alleynes etc. we probably will look at something similar to Colfe’s later on.

That’s very interesting! We’re not looking for a very academic school (although DS is quite academic) but far prefer nurturing schools. I will definitely look into Riverhouse!! Is there a nice community there?

Hi @Art22 - wondering if your child is still at Faraday? Would be keen to get some feedback.

@Climbergirl04 when you say a lot of people did not think much of Faraday because of the education, is the education at Faraday not as good as other preps? Considering where to send my DS in 2024.

BebeceeN · 26/02/2023 18:29

@Littlesock where did you end up sending your LO if you don’t mind me asking?

Mother2375 · 01/02/2024 18:26

I have heard mixed reviews of Faraday school. I just wanted a nurturing environment for my 7 year old son. He’s now been at Riverhouse for a year and a half and he loves it. We love his teacher and I like the parents there. They have now introduced a hot lunch option too. To be honest, we just felt primary education should still be a happy time for him and with the smaller class sizes, afterschool clubs and less of a commute than other schools, it felt right for us.
