Advice on parking in Stockbridge

Hi!
I will be moving to Edinburgh next month from England. I will be moving in to a relative’s property in Stockbridge initially, probably for about 6m, before looking for a longer term home once I know the city better.
I am bringing my car with me because exploring Scotland is an important thing for me, as well as having freedom to visit friends etc, not in the city even though I realise I may not use it much in Edinburgh itself. I understand parking is a big problem, so I am hoping MN May have some suggestions for me.
I am discussing with my relative whether I can be named on council tax so I can apply for a permit, but if that isn’t a goer, where would you recommend looking at as somewhere safe to park?

Thanks!

There is free parking at the top of East Fettes Avenue - that might work if you don’t need your car everyday?
