Hi everyone
Husband got a job in NTU and we will be moving from Manchester. I have no clie about Nottingham and which areas to focus lr avoid. So far we have found a nice house to rent in Hucknall. Haven't confirmed it yet though. Can anyone please advise whether it's good for families with decent schools. I have 2 primary going boys.

Hi there,

Obvious pluses are affordable housing, the tram into Nottingham and some nice countryside and visitor attractions around and a bit north or east of there (Papplewick pumping station, Newstead, Sherwood Pines etc).

The area is quite mixed, thinking of local walks etc. There's quite a stark contrast between ex-mining villages and agricultural ones. Hucknall itself is an ex-mining community.

A minus might be limited local activities - small town and because you're a bit more isolated there than in the Nottingham-Derby conurbation, where one busy area merges into the next, so might find yourselves travelling in and out of Nottingham a lot for fun things to do. Time-consuming at commuter time. Depends how many activities your dcs do really.

No idea about schools. There are lots of 'Moving to Nottingham' threads on here, if you want to know about other areas.
