Hello everyone I really need some advice 🙂👍 After many years of deliberation we have sold our house and moving to Cornwall 🙂👍 however we are torn between st Ives and Looe. We are both nurses so work fortunately is not a problem. Can anyone give advice where to go ? We have two children 10 and 7 so cannot be too isolated x

Bear in mind that both St Ives and Looe will be packed with tourists in the summer. I don't visit St Ives at all in the summer holiday. Last time I went the beaches were full and you could barely walk down the street.

Looe is nearer Plymouth which would be handy for your children when they are older.

Do you have a hospital in mind to work at?

Crikey St Ives to Derriford is a right trek! Good couple of hours, especially during the summer. Looe will be quite a journey too, but more doable.
I would also steer clear of St Ives for the tourism factor. It's just packed.

Have you looked at the Liskeard area? Not coastal but affordable.

Sorry don't know much about that area. I am further down and used to work at Treliske in Truro and St Michael's in Hayle.

If you work at Treliske the traffic can be hell at rush hour but you get special price passes for the park and ride. There's two park and rides either side of the city. People commute in from St Agnes, Falmouth, St Austell, Camborne, Redruth, all around. Lots of the towns have small hospitals too if that suits you.

Have you thought about Saltash or somewhere along the Tamar if your husband's commuting to Derriford? He's not go so far to go then.

St Ives to derrifordmwould be a Nightmare daily commute ! Also st ives really is not always pleasant in summer - heaving !

Looe to Derriford would be quite a long commute, was there a reason why you had chosen it/St Ives?

Saltash is a lovely quiet town 20 minutes from Plymouth/Derriford, but in wet season there’s not much for kids.

Tavistock, Callington, Landrake are also nice towns that are commutable to Derriford but not coastal if that was your intention - although there would be not far to travel to find a beach. Landrake is similar to Saltash in not a lot there, I don’t know much about Callington or Tavistock but they are bigger and more to do there for kids I believe.

Callington for me seems a bit of a nothing town, close to the moors but not much else.
I live down near St Austell, but if I did move would consider the Wadebridge area - nice town, not too touristy but right on the north coast, reasonable road connections, it looks like about an hour from Derriford, but still good for Truro and Bodmin hospitals.
