Hi All

DH has a new job in Chelmsford. We are looking to relocate, but have no idea on where to live, schools for the kids etc.
We need to be within about 10 miles of Chelmsford Ideally. Not too fussed about proximity to train stations.
Preferably a town close by with a nice high street.
Decent secondary schools.
Any advice would be gratefully received. Any areas to avoid?

Hi, not sure if you found your answer elsewhere (the Property/DIY section is very good for location discussions, this section seems very quiet!).

Billericay is nice, and has a good high street. Wickford and Rayleigh are also nice but a bit further.

Kelvedon is lovely. Large village. Has pubs, primary schools, doctors etc. 15 mins drive to Chelmsford.
Just off the A12. And on mainline to Liverpool Street.
Equidistant to Chelmsford and Colchester for grammar schools.

I'd go north of Chelmsford to get more £ for your money.
