Jewish community

Hello, we're thinking about relocating to the Jewish community (Modern Orthodox not Charedi) in Newcastle from Paris.

What are the pros and cons of life in the Toon?

Manchester is also an option but London is too expensive.

Would be very grateful to hear from locals before we plan our visit. Thanks!

Very little community left in Newcastle, I'm afraid.

Thanks for your message. Sorry to hear that. Do you know if there are weekly shabbat services? And if there's a talmud-torah class for children on Sunday mornings?

There are weekly shabbat services, but poorly attended, almost all elderly, and very few kids. Not sure about talmud-torah, but I''m sure you could get a tutor from Gateshead (which is nearby) at very good rates.

Have you considered Leeds?

Will investigate Leeds.

From what I can see, Moortown is at the heart of Jewish life in Leeds. It's also one of the more expensive places to live in the city.

Although, the same is true for Gosforth in Newcastle.

Prestwich looks a bit more affordable, but I've heard that since the BBC move to Manchester, house prices are rising rapidly...

Do you think that sending children to Jewish schools is important in England today?
