Oakwood Primary School

Hi,

We’ll be sending our eldest off to school soon, and it looks likely to be either St Mary’s (longshot, out of Parish) or Oakwood. We hear very mixed things about Oakwood, so wanted to try and get some more opinions.

From the latest Ofstead report it seems to be good at helping children who start off a bit behind the average, but maybe not challenging for average/above average ones, would that be fair?

Juat as importantly, what is the school like? Is it friendly, inside and at the gates, or (as some people have said) “a bit angry”.

We moved to Cheltenham about 5 years ago, and don’t know anyone ourselves who have been, or are going there.

Just wondering how you got on. We find ourselves in a similar situation. Trying to find information on Oakwood School.

Hi, sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

We went for a visit to the school where some of the teachers showed us round, and were very impressed. It seemed a very pleasant atmosphere, and the teachers clearly put a lot of effort and care into it.

If you can do the same thing I'd recommend it - we were able to ask lots of questions and it definitely put our minds at rest about it. St Mary's is probably still our first choice, but we wouldn't be worried if they end up at Oakwood instead. We emailed them to arrange it, details at:

Just wondering if either of you ended up sending your DCs to Oakwood? We have recently moved to the area and have been informed by the In Year admissions team that there is a place there. We have tried 6 other schools more local to us and they are all full.
