Moving To Bath from the USA

Hi, My DH and 3 DD are moving from Texas to Bath in 12-18 months. My husband is British and we have spent a lot of time visiting the UK over the years including this past summer when we rented a house in Larkhall for a month to get a feel for Bath. We loved Larkhall but are struggling to find a detached/ semi - detached that would alllow us to expand and renovate. We have found a property that would give us the space and ability to expand but it is Batheaston which is a bit further out of town than we had planned. My DH will travel back to states 1 week each month so ease of getting to train important but not only criteria. Not sure at all about schools as our kids range from 4-9 with our eldest having dyslexia. We enjoyed the walkability of Larkhall with shops and takeaway a few minutes walk away and loved running on canal path and the great community feel . However, finding property even with a fortunate budget has been tough. How is Batheaston (property is just off London Road and is technically Lower Swainswick, near the toll bridge.) What about Weston? We would love Widcombe but can't find anything. We would consider the close in villages, as long as there was a small supermarket and a few shops within walking distance- any feedback or help is much appreciated. Also, I will be a SAHM until all paperwork, docs in place so likely for at least a year and then hoping to pick up with my American company which would be med sales so travelling all over south west so no specific commute just the ability to get to motorways helpful. Thanks so much in advance.

Bath is a lovely place to live. The schools are good, there is countryside on your doorstep.

Maybe it is the way you have phrased it, but I wouldn't let 24 taxi rides/year for your DH to get to Bath train station influence your choice of location (I'd be surprised if they would cost more than £10 each way from nearly all of Bath).

If you wanted more space for your money, have you looked at Bradford on Avon or Corsham?
