Moving to Shrewsbury

Hi everyone
What areas of Shrewsbury are nice? I am here on a househunting visit, and will be checking out estate agents whilst I'm here. I don't need school options, just to be close to the town centre, or a short bus ride out.
I've been told to avoid North and East of the river. Correct?
Can't go too posh, but have enough for a small terrace or cottage.

When I lived in Shrewsbury at the turn of the century ( - makes me sound so Victorian!) I lived just off Abbey Foregate, in a lovely Victorian terrace. I loved that house

Absolutely loved living there: a really short walk into town over the bridge.
