Moving to Guildford

Hi all - we are moving out of London to Guildford in the summer - I have two primary aged children and looking for recommendations of (state) primary schools and current view on George Abbot school. I’m a bit nervous about moving so any ideas / suggestions re settling in and making friends very welcome too!

This reply is probably a bit late now but I was hanging around here looking for additional primary school info too.

So this is all word of mouth:
the main ones that keep coming up as v good primary schools amongst local Mumfriends are Boxgrove and Sandfields (we are currently thinking of moving to get into the Sandfield catchment, among other reasons). Generally I think you are well-placed for decent schools in Guildford - even Weyfield Academy - which seems to have had its rocky moments in the past - seems to be on the up (Certainly a Mum whose son goes there says big leaps have been made recently).

As far as George Abbott goes, I have also hear good things, but Guildford County has also been repeatedly named as a strong state school in recent years (it is apparently great for musical children)

All that, as I say, is word of mouth, I'm also eager to hear from anyone who has direct experience of any of these too :0) But, as i say, I think you are onto a winner with Guildford generally - I'm not sure i've heard of any total stinkers as far as local schools go.

Hi! I'm in a similar position - we're moving to the Guildford area in a few months. We'll rent intially. Does anyone have any opinion on Wonersh and Shamley Green Primary school? From reading the Ofsted report, it's recently changed from Outstanding to Good, and it says it's been through a lot of change recently so wasn't sure what it's like? thanks!

We are moving to the UK from France in December. We have 2 boys, 13 & 9 yo. My husband's employer offered temporary accommodation near the university of surrey area. Based on my research, I am very much interested to put my eldest at George Abbot school and looking to rent and eventually buying a property near that side of Guildford once we are there. I know we have to apply for in year admission for my boys. But what do we do with our proof of address? Does anyone have previous experience regarding this matter? I am getting stressed now with our moving plan and the clock is ticking. But my main concern now is my children's school registration in Guildford. Please advice. Thank you very much.
P/S : how long is the drive from GA school area to Uni of surrey area in the morning

Guildford traffic can be horrendous.

I dont know about school admissions, but GA to the Uni is right through Guildford so likely to be about 30-45 mins if traffic is back to 'normal' I would imagine.

Guildford County is a very good school. They could walk from home.
